Privacy notice

How NISD handles personal information collected through this website.

This notice explains what personal information The National Institute for Sustainable Development collects through this website, why it is collected, and what happens to it.

What this website collects

This website has no visitor accounts and no newsletter sign-up. The only personal information it collects is what you choose to send through the contact form:

  • your name and email address, which are required so that we can reply;
  • your telephone number and organisation, if you choose to give them;
  • the subject and content of your message.

When you send a message, the website also records a one-way cryptographic hash derived from your network address. This cannot be turned back into your address. It exists solely to limit how many messages can be sent from one connection in an hour, which keeps the form usable.

What is not collected

This website does not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels or third-party analytics by default. It does not build a profile of your browsing, and it does not sell or share personal information with anyone for marketing.

Essential cookies are used only for staff who sign in to the private administration area. If you are an ordinary visitor, no cookie is set for you.

Why we hold it, and for how long

Messages are held so that staff can read and answer them, and so that The National Institute for Sustainable Development keeps a record of correspondence about its programmes. Messages are reviewed and marked as handled, and are deleted once they are no longer needed for that purpose.

Who can see it

Messages sent through this website can be read only by authorised NISD staff who have signed in to the administration area. Access is enforced by the database itself, not only by the interface. Messages are not visible to other visitors under any circumstances.

Where it is stored

Website content and contact messages are stored in a managed PostgreSQL database, and uploaded files in managed object storage. Both are protected by access rules that deny access by default.

Your rights

You may ask The National Institute for Sustainable Development what personal information it holds about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to us using the contact details below and we will respond.

Photographs of people

Photographs published on this website show NISD's activities and the communities it works with. If you appear in a photograph and would like it removed, please contact us and we will do so.

Links to other websites

Where this website links to an external organisation, that organisation's own privacy practices apply once you follow the link. The National Institute for Sustainable Development is not responsible for them.
